"The light has been waiting for you." — Father Phúc
The Provenance — A Brass Key on a Red String
In 2025, in a quiet corner of New York City, Minh Tran met Father Phúc—an aging Catholic priest who had once tended a parish in the labyrinthine alleys of Saigon's Chợ Lớn in the early 1960s. During their third meeting, Father Phúc pressed an old, tarnished brass key on a faded red string into Minh's hand, whispering: "The light has been waiting for you."
Behind a nondescript storage facility on Long Island, beneath layers of dust, rested a single archival case. Inside were 66 pristine negatives, shot between 1963 and 1966 on a Leica M3 using Kodak Tri-X 400. Sixty-six frames capturing a country moving from tentative peace into the crucible of conflict, and back into quiet grace.
