Chapter 01
Who I Am
About me
Chào cô. I'm Minh Trần. I was born in Orange County to parents who left Saigon in 1975. Growing up, the war was a silence in my house. My parents didn't talk about it. There were no photographs of the old country — only a few cracked images in a plastic bag under my mother's bed.
I'm now an MFA candidate in Documentary Photography at NYU Tisch. I shoot on a second-hand Pentax K1000 my uncle gave me. I believe a photograph is a question, not an answer. I came to photography to find the questions nobody thought to ask.
"I grew up feeling like half my history had been left behind in a city I'd never seen. The camera became my way back."
